Piracy, Why I don't own a 360, and more

Well Today I would like to talk about an issue that could be the main reason why independent game developers are forced out of business or into conglomerate mergers with other companies (in other words EA) - Piracy. Yes, yes most of you will be saying "But that only affects PCs, my precious console will not be robbed of amazing games due to piracy." Unfortunately that isn't the case at all. Maybe not so much in the USA or in Europe but where I live (UAE) the only console on the market for which pirated games aren't available is the PS3, due to frequent firmware updates I guess, but I am pretty sure that won't last for long either.

You might be wondering that why would anyone pirate games on consoles when they know they won't have any online functionality at all? Well the simple truth is here in the middle east and asia (Korea and Japan excluded of course) people don't know much about online, and those few that do know don't really care about online. The other day I was thinking of purchasing a PSP so I went to a store and asked how much would it cost me. The guy on the counter said 600 AED (around 250$) and then he said for an extra 100 Dhs he would install hack on the PSP that will allow me to download the PSP games online for free.

I can't do much out here on my own but if you are one of those who pirate games please remember that every time you are downloading these games or purchasing pirated copies of these game, the money that you save is equivalent to money you stole from the developers. If you aren't one of those people that pirate games please raise your voice against this injustice.

Anyways on another topic in my last post I said that I didn't own a 360 and the reason for that would be explained in my next post. Well I was originally gonna purchase 360 when I heard all the reliability issues of the 360 and I figured that since I am living in a country with limited support from Microsoft (I mean I checked around on some middle east based game forums and some 360s would be denied repair even if they are within warranty period) so I decided to get a PS3. I owned a Wii temporarily but then my sister came over fell in love with Wii goddamn sports and took it with her to her college in Canada.

I am presently playing Crysis, Bioshock, Hl2, Hl2 episode 1, Hl2 episode 2, Gears of War for windows. Just finished Portal before posting this. Will get a review up with my next post.
Till that time arrives Chao.
